The tea ceremonies run on Thursdays every month: 26 September, 31 October, and 14 November.
Experience the wonders of a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony with Yukie Williams and presented by Yukie Scott.
Yukie Williams has over 11 years’ experience practising Japanese tea ceremonies, known as sadō (茶道), inspired by her early years in Japan.
Set in our tranquil gallery space, this intimate demonstration will give you an insight into the cultural traditions surrounding the Japanese Tea Ceremony and the chance to taste authentic matcha tea and traditional sweets from Japan.
During the session you will learn about the details and meaning behind each step of the ceremony.

The chance to explore the galleries and discover our temporary exhibitions and exquisite collections, including tea-ware from East and Southeast Asia.
You will also receive a traditional Japanese Nerikiri (練り切り) sweet made by local confectioner Ryoko Stibbe, and a small Matcha (抹茶) tea pouch (enough for two cups) provided by Comins Tea, a local independent tea merchant. Matcha is the traditional powdered green tea used during the Japanese Tea Ceremony.
