Bath G&S Society has built a considerable reputation for its innovative productions of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and this year it turns its hand to the pair’s spooky and hugely inventive hit – Ruddigore.
When shy, retiring Robin Oakapple is uncovered as the villainous Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, inheritor of the curse of Ruddigore which compels him to commit a crime each day, his romance with the faultlessly virtuous Rose Maybud is doomed. But things take a turn for the worse when he struggles to fulfil the curse, and his ancestors’ portraits begin to haunt him.
It’s all helped along with some of Sullivan’s finest music, including the tongue twisting ‘Matter, Matter, Matter’ trio and the spine-chilling ‘Ghost’s High Noon’. This sparkling new production moves the action to Regency Bath and promises to be a really special pre-Christmas treat for all the family!
“… a close-knit group of performers that was well disciplined, supportive of each other and totally dedicated to their craft”. ROSE BOWL ADJUDICATION, Pirates of Penzance 2018.
