Homer Sykes: Exhibition

Opening Night 17th Oct @ Roseberry Road Studios [ Art & Design ]

Homer Sykes
Roseberry Road Studios hosts a retrospective by prestigious British photographer Homer Sykes.

Homer Sykes is a renowned magazine and documentary photographer with a career spanning over five decades. In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked for major "weekend colour supplements" such as The Telegraph, The Sunday Times, and The Observer, while also covering news for outlets like Newsweek and Time. He documented conflicts in Israel, Lebanon, and Northern Ireland, and captured portraits of both the famous and everyday people.

His long-term project on traditional British folklore customs began in the 1970s, leading to his acclaimed book Once a Year, reissued in 2016 with additional images. Sykes has authored or co-authored nine books about Britain, as well as Shanghai Odyssey and On the Road Again, an American road trip series.

In 2002, he founded Mansion Editions to self-publish his work. Today, Sykes manages an archive of over twenty thousand images, works on personal projects, and continues to shoot new material. He also taught Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication for ten years.

Sykes' vintage prints are represented by the James Hyman Gallery in London and by Francoise Morin at Les Douches La Galerie in Paris.
