Throughout November, Hidden Gallery, renowned for their expertise in exceptional and rare artworks, are delighted to be honouring Henri Matisse with their latest exhibition of original prints by the Modern Master of colour.

Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) is often considered the greatest colourist of the 20th century. The significance of his innovations made him Picasso’s most important rival. He was a painter, printmaker, sculptor and draughtsman of incredible agility and inventiveness. A giant of Modernism, his career culminated in the papiers découpés, revolutionary paper cut-outs that have become some of the most iconic images in the history of art.

“The vibrancy, fluidity and tenderness of Henri Matisse’s work has been captivating audiences for decades,” says Amy Hampshire, senior manager of Hidden Gallery. “The images are as impactful today as the day they were first created, and we are thrilled to provide our visitors with the opportunity to become part of the artist’s story.”

The exhibition will include original lithographs and etchings, including prints from the iconic cut-outs series. These lithographs were begun in 1950, almost at the end of the artist's life, and are from the only edition of the cut-outs produced directly by Matisse. The images recreate the artist’s iconic pochoir designs and were incorporated into a volume of the French portfolio Verve, ‘Dernieres Oeuvres de Matisse’, celebrating his last works.

The artworks, which are available to buy, will be on display in the gallery located in the Clifton Arcade in Clifton Village from 1st of November until the 1st of December, offering visitors an exciting opportunity to take home their very own slice of art history.
